Thousand of years ago the secret of the cacao tree was discovered in the tropical rainforest of the Americas. The seeds of this tree were processed into what we know today as chocolate.

The first people known to have made chocolate were the ancient cultures of Mexico and Central America. These people , including the Maya and Aztec, mixed ground cacao seeds with water, chilli peppers, cornmeal, and other ingredients to create a spicy and frothy drink. This beverage was favoured by royalty.

Over time and with the influence of a mixture of cultures, revolutions and ingredients, chocolate became the delicious sweet we know and love today.
